Potential Native Bacilli Reduce Fumonisin Contamination in Maize

چکیده
In Bangladesh, Fusarium proliferatum is a prevalent pathogen of maize plants that poses significant threat to human health and livestock by producing carcinogenic fumonisin. However, the use Bacillus species, which can colonize infected plant parts, has been practiced globally mitigate fumonisin contamination in maize. this study, B. subtilis MMM1, native isolate from rhizosphere, was found be most effective antagonist against F. proliferatum, reduced their mycelial growth total accumulation 85.31% 85.12%, respectively, over control through fivefold reduction fungal population (1.1 × 104 CFU/g grain) vitro. Furthermore, out five bacilli used MMM1 able increase root and, shoot length, vigor index seedlings, colonizing fresh roots at 82 106 tissue. This suggests might put forth both as biocontrol agent promoter Bangladesh combat proliferatum. Nevertheless, evaluation its efficacy reducing should investigated under field conditions.

Prospects for reducing fumonisin contamination of maize through genetic modification.
Fumonisins (FB) are mycotoxins found in (italic)Fusarium verticillioides-infected maize grain worldwide. Attention has focused on FBs because of their widespread occurrence, acute toxicity to certain livestock, and their potential carcinogenicity. FBs are present at low levels in most field-grown maize but may spike to high levels depending on both the environment and genetics of the host plant...
متن کاملAssessment of Aflatoxin and Fumonisin Contamination of Maize in Western Kenya.
We conducted a survey of aflatoxin and fumonisin in maize in western Kenya. In a regional survey of aflatoxin conducted in 2009 across three agroecological zones within three administrative regions, milled maize samples were collected from 985 patrons of 26 hammer mills. Aflatoxin contamination was detected in 49% of samples and was above the regulatory (10 ppb) in 15% of the samples overall; 6...
متن کاملDiallel Analysis of Resistance to Fusarium Ear Rot and Fumonisin Contamination in Maize
The fungus Fusarium verticillioides infects maize (Zea mays L.) ears and kernels, resulting in Fusarium ear rot disease, reduced grain yields, and contamination of grain with the mycotoxin fumonisin. Hybrid maize breeding programs involve selection for both inbred and hybrid performance; the emphasis placed on inbred versus hybrid selection depends on heritability of and the genetic correlation...
متن کاملRelationships among resistances to fusarium and Aspergillus ear rots and contamination by fumonisin and aflatoxin in maize.
ABSTRACT Fusarium verticillioides, F. proliferatum, and Aspergillus flavus cause ear rots of maize and contaminate the grain with mycotoxins (fumonisin or aflatoxin). The objective of this study was to investigate the relationships between resistance to Fusarium and Aspergillus ear rots and fumonisin and aflatoxin contamination. Based on a previous study of 143 recombinant inbred lines from the...

Plant Dis. 95:212-218. Aspergillus flavus has two morphotypes, the S strain and the L strain, that differ in aflatoxin-producing ability and other characteristics. Fungal communities on maize dominated by the S strain o...
